Brussels, Belgium, Porte de Hal - Hallepoort, Staircase.
The Porte de Hal - Hallepoort was incorporated in the medieval Walls of Brussels.
The walls have been pulled down in the early years of the 19^th century, to make room for wide boulevards, like in Vienna for example. The Gate survived, as a testimony of past architecture.
The staircase has been reconstructed in the decorative architectural style "troubadour", much in favour in the 19^th century ("Troubadour" is a reference to the popular perception of middle age in the 19^th century).
