Brussels, Belgium, Porte de Hal - Hallepoort, Staircase. The Porte de Hal - Hallepoort was incorporated in the medieval Walls of Brussels. The walls have been pulled down in the early years of the 19th century, to make room for wide boulevards, like in Vienna for example. The Gate survived, as a testimony of past architecture. The staircase has been reconstructed in the decorative architectural style "troubadour", much in favour in the 19th century ("Troubadour" is a reference to the popular perception of middle age in the 19th century).
